Seems to be the format of Prevue Guide matched up to the look of the Prevue Channel.
I live pretty close to where this video was taken and I remember that also in some Atlanta suburbs that they also had a guide that looked like this. I saw a report on WSB-TV channel 2 a long time ago about a cable rate hike for Metro Atlanta and they showed someone flipping through channels on their TV and this guide is what appeared.

I tried to find that video to post, but was unable to find it. It must've been one of those videos that I accidently recorded over.

Thanks,
Steven
Wow, you're not the only one who mentioned the Prevue Channel on a local news report. From where I live, I remembered that I also saw a simiar news story featured on WMBD-TV back in the late '90s that also talked about another cable price hike (only this time, it was from my area). From what I remember in their news story, they were also talking about price hikes on our cable system and they even showed a glimpse of our local Prevue Channel too, but ours was in the grid format. I don't think I could ever find video on YouTube about it. I wish I had footage of that story.

Since this was taken on December 21, 1994, Prevue was working on adding some Christmas music. So, during that day, it was silent. I remember watching it during that time, too.

Also, I remember the Prevue Channel did have some segments at the time, like "Holiday Spotlight" (which was a holiday version of "Network Spotlight", for Prime-time Network Affiliate & Cable Network programs showing holiday programs) and a guitar man playing some christmas music with clips of christmas movies and reads "Happy Holidays from Prevue" with an ornament. Everybody remember this?

It appears that this video is no longer at YouTube ("This video is no longer available because the uploader has closed their YouTube account."). I have saved it:

Huh, that's fascinating.

This may sound like a long shot, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this was a software bug. It is clear that the Prevue Channel software, even the version we have, incorporates part of the old, 1988-1993 look of Prevue Guide - all you have to do is press escape while emulating the software, and you will see the same header format as the one shown in this video. In fact, in my experience with reverse engineering the software, it almost seems like the grid format was programmed over top of the old list format, and both are present in some form.

Either that, or maybe there's some hidden, obscure option, key-combination, or setting that would bring out the old list format. I will keep this in mind in the future when I get back to reverse engineering ESQ. (I have noticed that there are many more supported keyboard shortcuts than what we have discovered on these forums.)
You may be right, Ari. Look closely at that video - the text spacing for the listings is still treating it like a fixed-width font (look at the difference in spacing between channels that do and don't end in 1, for example) and the raised box edge around the time slot in the scroll doesn't quite look right there. Like it wasn't really meant to be that way.

I talked to the uploader of that clip, and he said that from what he remembers the guide always looked that way. Although you make a valid point that it still could've been a bug, it would seem like it would've had to been fixed rather than to continue on as such for years.

On an off-topic note, your username has just caught my eye. Is it by any chance a reference to the band "Local H"?

Tennessee Wasn't the only one to have that view, Sacramento,CA Was also the ones to have it at one point. :)
In Recent Studies have shown that the Blue Guide Was A early staged beta of the prevue channel.
Not everywhere seemed to have it like COX in Phoenix,AZ.

I'm pretty sure it's a reference to the hostname "localhost", which points to 127.0.0.1 (the local machine). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost

I just found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHfgKwrkE4U

It appears that even as of mid-to-late 1999*, the C-Band listings grid paused after every page of listings...

*The red/cyan highlighted entries appear to have a gradient, but the VHS noise makes this less obvious.

I found a Canadian EPG Sr. Video from 1993.

About 15 seconds into the video, a full-screen pay-per-view advertisement appeared.
