Pay-Per-View

Post by Bolt96 »

Pay-per-view's popularity has certainly dwindled down over the last 10 years, but it's still in use with many Television providers. My question to you is does your TV provider offer many, if any at all, pay-per-view choices? And if so do you use it?

I rarely use it myself but the Comcast in my area still utilizes PPV somewhat moderately. We have enough to have a barker channel for it. A lot of it is for live events, but I've noticed movies as well.

Speaking of Comcast, I found an amusing quote from the FAQ section their website today
NON-DIGITAL CUSTOMER PPV ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Tune to your Sneak Prevue channel for showtimes and ordering information
2. Select movie
3. Call your local Comcast Customer Service at 1-888-COMCAST (266-2278) to order instantly

Haha, I saw that on Comcast's web site a little while ago as well, but I forgot to post it!

Here in Philadelphia, Comcast does have a barker channel intended for pay-per-view, but it actually primarily seems to promote On Demand. I haven't watched anything off pay-per-view in years, but we do still have it. I have talked to a few people who still use it, but only to watch wrestling events.

I have Comcast Digital Cable at my house. I have 1 honest Pay Per View Channel out of 11. (There is one aside just for PPV previews) However the other 10 are just porno PPV channels. I remember regular (plug cable straight into the TV) having more PPV channels for actual movies in the 1990's

mrso2976, that's interesting that all of your PPV channels are porno - I'm pretty sure mine has more than just that (not that I've used it in years). But wouldn't you need some sort of box to descramble the pay-per-view? I don't think it would work if you just plugged it into your TV, even in the analog days.

Hah, check this out:
Comcast recently updated the pay-per-view ordering instructions to change the phone number to 1-800-XFINITY... but they didn't catch, apparently, that Sneak Prevue has not existed for 10 years. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-su ... -per-view/

thats because Sneak Prevue is still its network name in the system. its just plastered with no Logos or the Sneak Prevue Call Lettering showing that is sneak prevue. they once had color bars that said Sneak Prevue then it cut to more trailers. really its suppose to say Comcast In-Demand Previews.

That is funny that "Sneak Prevue" made its way to Comcast's website... my question is where has it been all this time? lol

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I have seen some scattered reports from the past few years that occasionally, when things go wrong, that name can be seen on the channel in some way or another. Kinda strange/funny though.
