Re: LISTINGS!
Sigh. Talk about a senior moment. And me in my thirties. I completely mixed up which of the two cards had the serial connection on it! Yeah, disregard. The software is sending those single-byte commands to the data demod card via serial. And presumably the data demod card then acts on those ...

Re: Amiga Serial Commands
I tried sending commands through the system. What's good about the COM Port Data Emulator software is that it also shows when a command is sent back through the COM port. What I was able to find is that everytime the top half screen is changed (the Logo.lst files) an acknoledgement is sent through ...

Re: LISTINGS!
Well, as swest77 pointed out in his own video about the Saddest Prevue Guide that Ever Lived, the Amiga had the capability to control the audio card all by itself (when you went into the menu with the escape key). It's an interesting possibility though. Correct. I haven't been able to follow the fo...

To be more specific about things: the c-band video feed began in 1988. But even before then, listings data was still delivered via satellite (on WGN -- via its VBI and/or an audio subcarrier containing one way analog modem type throughput; http://www.ariweinstein.com/prevue/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2...

Re: TV Guide Channel Emulation Working!
Don't feel bad. Nobody is ever old school or 1337 enough to escape the occasional bite in the ass from the "RTFM" gobblin. Glad you figured it out, though. 100% authentic software-hardware being the ultimate goal, this was an important step.

Re: TV Guide Channel Emulation Working!
You guys are applying a consumer access control mindset (hostility-oriented) to how big businesses interact mutually. ;) Within the cable industry, a deal simply would have been struck allowing providers not carrying WGN America to descramble it anyway, without payment to WGN, for the sake of obtain...

Re: Amiga Serial Commands
Interesting findings. Especially those multiple instances of improper programmatic checking. I'll even bet you're looking at one major reason it tended to crash. With a single-byte checksum, you have a 1 in 256 chance that a stray RF noise transient will get parsed as valid data. And if the internal...

Re: TV Guide Channel in Mexico
Maybe it's a later incarnation of http://web.archive.org/web/20070806030832js_/www.prevue.com/prevuechannel.htm Speaking of which, I noticed someone removed the reference to Prevue Junior from wikipedia's article. It got changed to a Prevue Interactive reference. I'm thinking that's incorrect, but ...
